PURPOSE OF POSITION
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Financial Reporting to join our dynamic team. As the Director of Financial Reporting, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial reporting function across all CIRE funds, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will work closely with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, external auditors, and other stakeholders to uphold the highest standards of financial transparency and integrity.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL REPORTING LEADERSHIP:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of all financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, footnotes, EPS calculation, and Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), ensuring accuracy and adherence to US GAAP.
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports, SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K), press releases, and other required regulatory disclosures in a timely manner, as required.
  • Research accounting literature and apply technical standards and analysis to complex or non-recurring business issues and transactions. Prepare written accounting memos documenting such issues/transactions for review by management and external auditors.
  • Monitor financial reporting and accounting issues as released by the SEC, FASB and other technical authorities. Specific areas of interest are revenue recognition, business combination, capital and operating leases, goodwill intangible assets, fair value measurements, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships and restructuring / exit costs, and REIT accounting.
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly and annual earnings releases, investor decks, and other outside communications as appropriate

EXTERNAL REPORTING AND COMPLIANCE:

  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the audit process, addressing inquiries and providing necessary documentation to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.
  • Stay current with emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes, assessing their potential impact on the firm’s financial reporting practices and ensuring compliance.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving reporting regulations, ensuring the firm’s continuous adherence to relevant reporting standards.

INTERNAL COLLABORATION:

  • Work closely with the finance team, including the CFO, external fund administrator, and VP of Accounting, to ensure accurate and timely financial data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with legal, tax, and other departments to ensure financial reports and disclosures are aligned with legal and tax requirements.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial reporting processes, increase efficiency, and improve the accuracy of reporting deliverables.
  • Implement best practices and standardized procedures to streamline reporting workflows and reduce potential risks.

STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATION:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the executive team, and other key stakeholders, conveying complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Participate in investor relations activities, addressing inquiries related to financial reporting and disclosures to ensure reports are disseminated within designated timeframes.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The position reports directly to Trevor Smith, President

VITAL GOALS/MEASUREMENTS:

  • Timely submission of corporate, property, and fund financial statements
  • Accurate financial statements
  • 100% compliance with audit FINRA, and SEC regulations as applicable
  • Timely quarterly investor reporting review

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, accounting, or auditing, with a substantial portion of that experience in the real estate or REIT industry.
  • Expert knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Specifically, investment company and historical cost basis reporting for public and private real estate funds.
  • Experience managing and leading financial reporting teams.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with a strategic and forward-thinking mindset.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: 

  • Location: Flexible – United States / Los Angeles / Southern California Preferred
  • Work Environment: The company is currently working primarily remote; however, the company reserves the right to bring people back into the office settings. This position would be excluded from that requirement if hired outside of Los Angeles, San Diego, and Phoenix.
